A 12-gram CO2 cartridge (placed in a removable magazine) sends pellets to a reduced distance and also provides a blowback function. Installing the C02 cartridge requires removing the plastic floorplate cover from under the magazine and unscrewing the cap with a ¼-inch hex wrench. Tying the cover can be tricky because the bottom of the magazine doesn't fit the thread. Once it is strong enough, the mouth of the cartridge is pierced and it is ready for use. A single round will get the shooter through three magazines before the gun runs out of power. Umarex recommends storing the gun in a place without a cartridge.
The metal flip-up magazine can store up to 18 rounds, which are carried in a small port in front of the magazine. BBs are pushed up the magazine by a spring-operated "follower" that forces and locks to load. To press the spring, you need to press down on the small tab and lock it by pushing the tab into the small notch. You will need a good finger or a tool like a mini screwdriver or even a ballpoint pen to do this. I usually choose a screwdriver. Inserting the balls one by one can be a little difficult for those with big (or thick) fingers who may prefer to use a small string to drop the balls into the magazine.
In addition to the trigger safety system that mimics Glock pistols, the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB pistol features a safety on the bottom of the gun's polymer frame in front of the guard. It is sticky and uncomfortable to use while shooting. But since the trigger protection is working, it is not necessary. This makes sense to use when changing magazines and/or C02 cartridges. The gun must be cocked (with the bolt) before using the safety.

I tested the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB gun by blowing several rounds of C02 sending hundreds of metal pellets at targets about 20 yards away. The recoil function was snappy, and while it doesn't come close to replicating the recoil of the newer version of this pistol, it certainly adds to the accuracy of the design. The gun fires with a pronounced crackle (think nail gun, but a little quieter), but it works in the yard.
The first word that comes to mind regarding the experience of shooting the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB pistol is "fun". "Realistic" comes second. This air rifle is an excellent training tool for shooters who want to shoot in a quiet and inexpensive way.
Accuracy is poor, which is not surprising considering that we are talking about a 3.6-inch smooth barrel. Shooting from 10 feet away and with the new C02 cartridge, the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB gun would shoot groups in the 5- to 8-inch range, sometimes with paper.
Both of my test pistols shot very smoothly, which is a known characteristic of the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB pistol. Since the detectors are designed to account for a low point of error, it is necessary to replace the detector pattern or change the detectors. Another option is to mount a laser sight using a bar on the frame in front of the trigger guard. But then again, this gun isn't designed to be accurate.

The size and feel of this model is identical to the original pistol, including the grip design and finish. So the favorite holster you use for the Glock 17 will also work for the BB version. I had both the BB version and the shotgun version on hand at the same time at the session, and we were impressed with their similarities.
The weight is completely comparable. At 27.9 ounces loaded, it's only four ounces less than a gun with a full 17-round magazine. Experienced shooters will notice the difference, but you're close enough to practice.
The main difference between the Glock 17 Gen 4 air pistol and the rifle version is the weight of the magazine. The BB version is heavier to help account for the lighter frame and slide. However, the reloading process is still possible (and effective) because the magazines are the same shape and the magazine release on the BB gun works the same as the version of the rifle. Do not drill on hard surfaces or you may damage the magazine.
Although we tried not to drop the magazine on a hard surface, on one occasion the magazine of a revolver we shot tended to form a chip in the plastic where the pellets fit into the barrel. This got me into jamming. Covered by Umarex warranty. Fortunately, since we had two guns, we could use the remaining magazine to complete the survey. Some magazines are $49.99.

The Umarex Glock 17 Gen 4 CO2 Pistol is a fun and good replacement for an economical training pistol. A container of 1500 BBs costs $7, which is less than half a penny per BB. The cost of a C02 cartridge is about 75 cents (less if you buy more, which is what you want to do). Firing three magazines through the BB version of this gun costs less than a dollar. If 9mm ammo costs 50 cents a round, that number of rounds from the gun would be about $30.
If accuracy is a must, this is not the gun for you. Great for low key, working out trigger times and reloading deals. The fact is that although it would be nice if the gun is close to the version of the gun in terms of accuracy (almost close), that is not a priority for many shooters considering the Glock 17 Gen 4 BB pistol with CO2- intake.
The Glock 17 Gen 4 BB gun was designed primarily as an inexpensive and (relatively) quiet backup gun. It's also fun to shoot normally, but you have to be comfortable with realistic settings.

Make sure you add a little oil to the top of the CO2 canister before wiping it down. Make sure you remove the Co2Z (even if it's still full) after firing because you can destroy the gas valve.
